History > Wat Phrasriratanamahathat

Legend of Somdej Phra Puttajarn To Promransri, Thailand

Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat

This temple was builth in the reign of Phra Maha Thamma Racha in A.D.1357. It is the place of the Phra Buddha Chinnarat, regarded as the most beautiful Buddha statue of Thailand. It is cast in the attitude of subduing evil. There are many other beautiful objects in the temple. The mother-of-pearl inlaid wooden doors of the vihara are especially splendid, and were built by King Boromkot in A.D.1756 as a dedication to Phra Buddha Chinnarat. Behind the vihara, there is a large Prang which is 36 meters high, with a staircase leading up to the niche containing relics of Buddha. This temple found one of great Benjapakee amulets which people given name "Phra Phong Suparn".
