In Buddhism, to prevent pain of big animal cause by human's appetite. One of good karma conduct call "Thum boon" to save life. Blessing in return of good strong health and safe fortune to the person. Cows save direct from slaughter houses bring to temple with ceremony and monks, name of the person blessing dedicate good merit with mantra, a vow by farmers to the monk, who will taken care of them for the rest of their life.
The ceremony blessing to saving life are very important, it been taught for all religions's teaching to save life and soul is one way of highest blessing, though most people start to see it more important when they got sick or going through surgery at hospital.
Story teach buddhism about young junior monk who had the last 7 days of his life, disciple of Sareebudd(one of first 5 disciples of Buddha). In last 3 days he asked to go back to his hometown to see his parent for the last time, on the way young monk save a big fish. By day 7 when he return, Sareebudd explained to him that the blessing of karma expand his life. Said spirits that been follow to take revenge from previous life had forgive him regard his action of good karma.
Buddha teaching for this world is a travel of spirits for eternity, materials evidence these days prove existance of spirits/souls. Pray for good karma/action that our spirits be blessed with good safe fortune and continue in alway a better being. Thankful to the religion for this opportunity.
