Buddha Sothon is one of the classic. Just like Buddha Chinnarath or PhraGaw Moragod. Made by many famous guru monks and temples over centuries. Buddha Sothon famous of blessing family wiith a child. And to protect their loves one.
The art of Buddha Sothon is more to slender side compare to others. Like a good flow. Which fit the legend of when the statue was found in B.E.2313(A.D.1770). By the story told through generations. In a province of northern Thailand there were 3 monks who were brothers. Succeed in the dharma and vinaya then transformed themselves into the Buddha image. By that time the northern was in an uproar, so the three brothers performed the miracles by floating down along the river.
The elder one. The Buddha statue floated all the way too Mae Khong River. Fisherman brought it and enshrined it at Ban Laem temple of Samut Songkram Proovince. Famous known today as "Luangpor BanLaem" Buddha statue.
The youngest one. The buddha statue floated into Bang Phli canal. This is called Buddha Luangpor Toh, enshrined at Wat BangPli temple.
As for the middle one. The Buddha statue floated towards Bang Pakong river. Arrived at the area in front of Wat Hong(The Swan temple). Many villagers helped to lift the Buddha but unable to get it out of the river. Until there was a master who performed a ceremony, used a holy thread(Saizin) to wrap the statue's hand and successsfully brought the Buddha statue out of the water. The Swan temple "Wat Hong" was later renamed to Wat Sothon. And named this sacred Buddha image after the name of the temple "Luangpor Sothon" as of today.
"Sothon" meaning. Reign in goodness. Purity. Holiness. Buddha Sothon is one of the most sacred Buddha statue of Thailand.
